The hillside house project began when the owner acquired Raphael Soriano’s 1936 Lipetz House and an adjacent empty lot. This allowed for the construction of a larger main residence, utilizing the natural promontory for expansive views. Our new building, positioned below the Lipetz House, is designed to not obstruct the original house's views while fitting naturally with the hillside's contours, resulting in a roof that mirrors the peak and slope of the terrain.

In dialogue with its modernist precursor yet distinctly contemporary, the house utilizes board-formed concrete, prefabricated trusses, and industrial PVC roofing. The design features a central living room pavilion created by two large trusses and is bordered by private areas, all optimized for views of the ocean, reservoir, and mountains. The ground level includes a carport and pool area, integrating indoor/outdoor living and connecting to the Lipetz House, thus forming a compound suitable for large gatherings.
